AFDA Mourns the Loss of Student, Thendani Ralephata

image

It is with great sadness that we inform our AFDA past and present students and staff that Tendani Ralephata (known as ‘Smurf’) tragically passed away last night when the wall of his balcony collapsed at his apartment on the 6th floor, which led to him falling to an untimely death. We offer our deepest condolences to his Family and friends. We at AFDA will remember Tendani for his great charm, personality and enthusiasm for what he did and these are the memories we will forever cherish.

AFDA will host a memorial service this Friday 29th July at 6pm on the AFDA campus. We would like to invite all those who knew him and would like to share in a moment of silence for the gentleman and friend that he was and will remain to many.

'Thank You AFDA'

We thought that you might like to hear from an AFDA graduate, so here is a copy of an email we recently received from one:

Since my graduation in March 2011 I have managed to get an internship programme with Endemol - South Africa in Johannesburg and currently I am a Production Assistant for the Dance Show called “Step Up Or Step Out” which airs every Sunday at 18:05pm and the Flipside airing on Tuesday’s at 20:30 pm on E.TV.

I would have never achieved what I have if it wasn’t for AFDA , AFDA has taught me so much about the film and television industry, it has equipped me with skills that have helped me develop and grow personally and professionally.

Meeting lecturers like Mr Ungerer – (Television Production Lecturer – 2010) became a huge help in giving me focus and tips on how to kick off in the TV industry, always believing in us, advising and encouraging us to always give our best. His words has stayed with me so much that in September I will be flying to Indonesia for one year to partake in the Darmasiswa Arts Scholarship.

I also appreciated the fact that during my first year with AFDA I had an opportunity to join other young artists from all over the globe in Brazil which motivated and helped me to identify my talent and broaden my knowledge and skills.

All these opportunities would have been far from my reach if AFDA didn’t tap into my life. The Lifestyle, Creativity, Skills, Passion, Inspiration, Beauty and Success you find at AFDA could never be successfully put into words one has to witness and absorb the experience for themselves.

So as they say in Setswana “Ke Lebogile AFDA Go Menagane” (Thank You so much)

Kindest Regards
Lerato Mapoga
