Multiple award winning 4th year AFDA  graduate film DIE WINDPOMP (THE WINDMILL) is the official AFDA  nominated film in the best foreign student short film for  the 2012 student OSCARS that take place at the Academy of Motion Picture Sciences auditorium in Los Angeles in June.

DIE WINDPOMP was nominated in eleven categories for the recently held AFDAS in Cape Town where the film and its crew and cast walked away with a record ten AFDAS.  These included best script, (Etienne Fourie) best female actor (Micaela Seyditz) best director, (Etienne Fourie) best cinematography (Johan Prinsloo) best VFX (Chris Bekker), best producer (Robyn Oettle) best editor (Louis Greef), best production design ( Lisa Van der Velde), best film and the critics award- a remarkable achievement considering the high standard of production in this particular year group. The film received the highest ever recorded AR’s (audience response ) scores ever recorded in AFDA’s eighteen year history.

The film has recently been acquired by the producer of STANDER Chris Roland of ZENHQ films in Cape Town, who has plans to expand the 48 minute short film into a feature length film for distribution on the local circuit in JULY 2012.

“ WINDPOMP is certainly one of the most complete and appealing short films ever made at AFDA and I think it stands a great chance at this years Student Academy Awards,” says AFDA co-founder and Chairman Garth Holmes.  “ I also believe that it has great potential as a feature film, where it will join the canon of local feature films been produced and made by AFDA graduates,” he said further.

DIE WINDPOMP will compete in various film festivals across the world including CANNES and the CILECT PRIZE where over 145 of the world’s leading film schools compete for the BEST FILM prize.
